The Domestic Communications Assistance Center ( DCAC ) – an elite unit staffed with agents from the U.S. Marshals Service and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) – is the FBI's latest response to the " Going Dark " problem brought on by the shift of communication from telephones to the Internet that has made it more difficult for agents to wiretap Americans they suspect of illegal activities.

Five of the nation’s largest cable companies — Comcast Corp., Bright House Networks, Cablevision, Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable — are creating a seamless national WiFi network to enable cable broadband subscribers to stream data or access the Internet through smart phones, tablets or laptop computers, the companies said Monday.
